Anesidora Part One
Impressed by the virtues of Nausicaa, daughter of King Alcinous, Odysseus encouraged his son Telemachus to travel to Scherie, the land of the Phaeacians, in order to win her hand in marriage. On his way to the city of his father's rescuers, the handsome son of Odysseus was waylaid and seduced by Aphrodite, goddess of love, for a full year. Longing for news of their missing son, Odysseus and Penelope learned from an oracle of Telemachus' entrapment by the goddess of beauty. After sacrificing to all the gods of Mount Olympus, Odysseus prayed to his patron goddess Athena that she might ensure the release of his beloved son and heir.
